Urban birds breed in parks, avoiding artificial structures. Eurasian Jays are less typical “citizens”, building their nests in trees – to find a nest on a building is a rarity. When a friend reported a Jay nest inside (!) a streetlamp I considered it a joke; the Eurasian Jay is not a hole nester. Yet, I could not resist to check out such a possible extraordinary breeding. I travelled to Brno, Czechia, and to my amazement the nest was real! Such quick adaptation of organisms to human-made global changes in their environment is unusual, yet provides a vision of hope for a better future.
