Almost every year after the epidemic, I would make a special trip to Lake Magadi in Kenya to record those flamingos with my camera. Once a freshwater lake, it has now become a highly concentrated salt pan that is severely alkaline and toxic to most plant and animal life – except for flamingos, which like to feed on the surface. Taken in March 2025, this series of photographs has been praised for their classic and beautifully composed design, while also highlighting the immeasurable impact of the climate crisis on the Rift Valley.
